If you haven't heard about 'You Need a Budget" I suggest you read up on it with the link provided. The reason I bring it up is that for next year I am wanting to do better about saving money and not buying a lot of unnecessary things. The first step to that is actually budgeting out where my money is going.
I started to use this program earlier this year but started lagging and then stopped doing it completely because I became lazy (its a terrible trait of mine with personal projects). I took a look at my spending this past month and decided it was time for me to really lock it down. I have a lot of plans to FINALLY open up a store to sell products featuring my artwork and in order for me to invest in myself, I need to actually have money to purchase the products to put in my store in the first place.
I also have plans to visit Disneyland Paris, Shanghai Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo Disney Sea, and Hong Kong Disneyland (are you really that surprised?) In order to afford any of those trips I need to actually have money to purchase plane tickets, afford hotel rooms, extra money for emergency's and for purchases. Luckily I don't have to worry about a passport because thanks to having to travel to Ireland and Germany earlier this year for work I was able to get a passport and not have to pay out of pocket for it!
Ultimately I would just like to be able to have a nice cushion to fall back on in the event that something happens (which is why I also recently added Digit to my arsenal --and something I will chat about more in depth at a later date.)
